2018 just keeps getting better, folks. Especially now that news has broke that Amy Poehler is sitting in the director’s chair in her first ever feature directorial debut with Netflix’s Wine Country. Additionally, the former Saturday Night Live member will also star in and produce the comedy. YES!
Amy Poehler’s Wine Country Has Fans Talking
As if that wasn’t reason enough to celebrate. Wine Country hosts the best cast line up we’ve seen in a comedy: Tina Fey, Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, Paula Pell, Maya Rudolph and Emily Spivey. Oh, it gets better. Spivey also wrote the script! Liz Cackowski, who also worked alongside Poehler on SNL, wrote the script. Wine Country features a great group of friends who decide to take a trip to Napa Valley to celebrate a friend’s 50th birthday. We can only imagine the shenanigans that follow.
Netflix celebrated the event by posting a musical video of the cast along with the following message, “It’s happening, Amy Poehler’s directorial debut, Wine Country, is coming soon to Netflix! Starring Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, Paula Pell, Maya Rudolph, Emily Spivey and featuring Tina Fey. Get excited. Get real excited.” ~We are SO excited!~
The Team Behind Netflix’s Wine Country
As mentioned, Emily Spivey has worked with Amy Poehler on Parks and Recreation already, so it’s no secret that the duo already have great chemistry together. And guys, Tina Fey is in the film – need we say more?! Poehler already has directing experience to her belt. She directed multiple episodes of Parks and Rec, along with episodes of the Comedy Central series Broad City. However taking on an ensemble feature will truly test Poehler, however we’re sure the actress, producer, and writer won’t have issues with the transition. She’s Amy Poehler after all.
Wine Country Is Likely Hitting Screens in Early 2019
While the news about Wine Country is still so recent, things have progressed rather quickly. Reportedly filming will begin this April in Los Angeles. Furthermore Amy Poehler will produce the movie through her own company, Paper Kite Productions. While Netflix has yet to release an exact date for Wine Country, it’s safe to assume that with production about to begin, the flick could hit the big screen as early as 2019.
